John’s presentation explored three ways of making room for ferns: planting in confined garden spaces, growing under protective cover, and terrarium culture.
Confined spaces
The notes include Adiantum hispidulum, Pellaea rotundifolia and several Polystichum species among the examples for compact, partly shaded settings.
Protected growing areas
Patios, shade cloth and other protected spaces formed the second group, with examples including Asplenium marinum and compact Nephrolepis.
Terrariums
The third group included ferns and companion plants suitable for terrarium culture. Match the plant to the conditions rather than choosing by appearance alone.
